Registration Process for the Sectoral Promotion Program (PROSEC)

It is a scheme that allows Mexican companies to import raw materials and inputs at preferential tariff rates, provided they are utilized in the manufacturing of specific products. Its objective is to reduce production costs and foster the competitiveness of the domestic industry.

This Program is directed at legal entities that manufacture goods within any of the 24 established industrial sectors, such as the electronics, automotive, chemical, steel, textile, and food industries, among others.

What is its purpose?

PROSEC permite a las empresas productoras importar bienes con arancel ad-valorem preferencial (es un tipo de impuesto aplicado a la importación de mercancías, calculado como un porcentaje sobre el valor de los bienes. Lo que lo hace "preferencial" es que se establece en acuerdos comerciales entre países, permitiendo que ciertos productos tengan tarifas reducidas en comparación con los aranceles estándar), siempre que sean utilizados en la fabricación de productos específicos.

  • New PROSEC: For companies seeking to register for the first time and access the benefits of the program.

  • PROSEC Expansion: For companies that already hold an authorization and wish to register new sectors or tariff lines.

  • Direct Producer: Companies that manufacture specific goods under the PROSEC decree.

  • Indirect Producer: Raw material and input suppliers that process steel and other industrial products.
